There are a lot of different kinds of dance music, so it can be difficult to decide. People loves old school, but old-school signifies different things to different people. Generally, people like the music that they listen to whwn they grew up. For my generation, this means 80s music. Coming from Detroit, Motown is also quite popular, but it doesn't hold sway over the whole country.

In reality, techno dancemusic is frequently one of the safest bets. The good thing with dancing to techno is that it is not difficult to trance out. The beating bass beats, the relentless rhythm, the synthetic sounds and the samples all add to a psychedelic vibration that is hard to resist. Of course, many of my dance DJ friends use a different approach. For those DJs, dancemusic is about joining the old and the new. This has always been the way that people thought about making dance mix music, whether it is in remixes or mash-ups. In reality, they make an effort to pay attention to the sort of music the youth is listening to and what the older generation preferred simultaneously. If you hear it playing on a cell phone ring tone, the chances are it will find a good home in the dance music mix, but it doesn't signify that you should only use what's new. After all, a lot of the older songs have succeded the test of time for a good reason, and dancers will always be happy to hear them again.

The biggest thing in dance music today is Hip Hop. If you don't use it in the mix, there is no way you will get the crowd vibrating. This doesn't signify that you have to keep it new, however. People will sometimes get a larger kick out of old-school, and you can score big points with a few tastefully selected Grandmaster Flash songs. This can help maintain a more positive, cheery rhythm to the party too!
